Ik ben twee dagen op een trekking geweest. Dit heet Yatra en vind jaarlijks plaats. Twee dagen voor Holi. Eerst naar Laxman Jula geweest. Een rit van 45 minuten met een "auto". Wij noemen dat de tjoektjoek. Vanaf Laxman Jula gelopen naar het startpunt, t.w. Pandav Cave. Vanaf dat moment was het klimmen geblazen. Over de bergtoppen. Ik wist niet wat mij overkwam. De groep bestond uit circa 500 mensen, waarvan het meerendeel Indiers waren. Oude vrouwen en mannen en allen liepen ze op slippers in vol ornaat. Dus in sari's. Ik had geen loopschoenen bij mij en liep dus op mijn waterschoenen. In de groep liepen ook muzikanten die twee dagen lang onafgebroken muziek hebben gemaakt. Het waren drie drummers en twee doedelzakspelers. Ook liep er een man met een mand op zijn hoofd met daarin bloemen en houtenslippers. De houtenslippers zouden symbool zijn voor de god Shiva. De klim was erg zwaar en afmattend. Het was de bedoeling om naar een ashram te lopen en daar met z'n allen de nacht door te brengen om de volgende dag door te lopen naar de tempel waar deze tocht voor bedoeld is. Deze tempel bevindt zich boven op een van de toppen van de uitlopers van de Himalaya. Wat een uitzicht vanaf dat punt. Pas hier heeft de man met de mand op zijn hoofd de mand neergezet en zijn offer aan Shiva gebracht. Toen begon de terugtocht vanaf de tempel naar Rishi Kesh. Ik had verwacht dat deze tocht iets makkelijker zou gaan aangezien wij nu door het dal zouden lopen. Niet dus! Het pad door het dal is niets anders dan de droge riverbedding. Ik liep dus over keien en moest proberen om niet mijn enkel te breken. Geen schaduw en vooral geen water. Iedereen strief zowat van de dorst. Na enige tijd kregen we water. Na afloop bleek dat ik dus water uit de ganges heb gedronken. Ik moet er niet meer aan denken. Ik ben dan ook ziek geworden. Braken en diaree. Ik heb drie dagen ziek gelegen en moest tenslotte naar een dokter. Dankzij de dokter ben ik weer op de been en kan ik dit navertellen. Voor mij nooit meer Jatra. De natuur was fantastisch maar dat was dan ook alles voor mij. Er zijn buitenlanders die elk jaar terugkomen voor deze tocht. Ik had gehoopt olifanten te zien, want het dal waarin wij liepen is het olifantengebied. Geen olifanten maar wel een heleboel olifanten poep. Het mooiste van de hele tocht vond ik het laatste deel toen wij de weer in de bewoonde wereld aankwamen. Dit was zo speciaal. We liepen met z'n allen in colonne naar Rishi Kesh. Daar werden wij met groot gejuich ontvangen. Op de een of andere manier gaf dat een enorme kick. Misschien kwam dat ook vanwege de vermoeidheid. Want ik was afgemat en kon haast niet meer lopen. Al mijn spieren protesteerden. Dit was wat ze noemen "once in a lifetime experience".
Morgen kan ik gelukkig weer mee doen met de yoga klas. Ik was daar te ziek voor.

Het weer hier wordt ondertussen iets beter vandaag 10 graden en morgen 12.
Vogeltjes zijn druk bezig en bepaalde bomen hebben al bloemenknopjes, maar.... het is nog geen lente! Heb je daar ook nog Phagwah gevierd?
De kranten hier staan bol van de te nemen beslissingen i.v.m. de bezuinigingen pfff alles draait erom.
