Gisteren heb ik aan mijn blog gewerkt en net toen ik alles wilde opslaan viel de electriciteit uit. Iets wat hier heel vaak gebeurd. Ik zal deze tekst dan ook regelmatig opslaan zodat ik dit niet voor niets heb gedaan.
Ik moet zeggen dat ik al aardig begin te wennen. En dat mede dankzij de yoga studenten. Zij proberen er alles aan te doen dat ik het naar mijn zin heb. Mijn yoga leraar is een jongeman van 23 jaar oud. Maar wat een leraar. Ik heb elke dag weer ergens anders spierpijn. Volgens de studenten is al te merken dat ik net zo hard mee doe. En dat 3 uur lang.
Ik ben maandag naar Rishikesh geweest. Maandag was een nationale vrijedag. Het was de geboortedag van Vishnu. Dat werd zeer uitbuindig gevierd. Ongeveer vergelijkbaar als koninginnendag in Nederland. In Rishikesh was er een kermis. Maar dan een kermis waarbij het attracties met mankracht draaiende werden gehouden. Er was een reuzenrad waarin een man stond te trappen zodat het rad rond kon draaien. Niet te geloven dus. Overal waren er kraampjes met eten. Die ben ik lekker voorbij gelopen. Als je weet hoe dat wordt klaargemaakt eet je nooit meer. Het water wordt uit de ganges gehaald om te koken en af te wassen. Want op zo'n kermis is er natuurlijk geen waterpomp. Te vies voor woorden. Ik loop overal met mijn flessen water. Lilian en Kimerbly nog bedankt voor jullie flessen.
Dinsdag na yoga was er geen les dus ben ik met een aantal van de studenten naar de stad Haridwar geweest. Ze zijn daar gebleven nog in de avond in Har Ki Pauri de ganga aarti mee te maken. De ganga aarti vindt elke avond weer plaats bij de ghats langs de ganga. Echter de aarti bij Har Ki Pauri is beroemd en erg populair onder de toeristen. Een van de yoga studenten heeft gedronken uit de ganges. Ik wist niet wat ik zag. Ze zeggen dat ze dat vaker doen en dat het water helend is. Ze mogen mijn portie aan Fikkie geven. Er zijn erg veel toeristen in dit gebied. Zowel in Rishikesh als in Haridwar.
De ashram waar ik zit ligt net buiten Haridwar, namelijk in Sapt Rishi. Het is daardoor erg rustig en er zijn weinig toeristen. Ik word niet als een toerist gezien. Iedereen denkt hier dat ik een van hen ben. De mensen zijn dan ook verbaasd dat ik geen hindi spreek. Het is wel erg makkelijk dat ze denken dat ik een van hen ben. Daardoor kan ik mij vrij bewegen zonder lastiggevallen te worden.
Het is hier erg stoffig en vies. Maar vies is het overal. Iedereen gooit alles maar op straat. Zelf als ze koken en het afval van bijv de uien wordt op straat gegooid. Niemand voelt zich ergens verantwoordelijk voor. Dat is erg jammer en ontzettend zonde want India is een erg mooi land. Hele mooie natuur en heel veel groen. Jammer genoeg zijn er nog geen mango. Maar wat een groente en fruit. In deze omgeving zijn de mensen bijna allemaal vegetarier. Daardoor is er een grote verscheidenheid aan groente en fruit te krijgen.
Overal zijn er van die kleine winkeltjes. Eigenlijk zijn het meer hokjes waar van alles en nog wat te krijgen is. Het zijn ienie mini supermarktjes eigenlijk. Gisteren ben ik naar de kleermaker geweest voor het laten maken van een salwar kameez. Maakloon is R 130,00. Een euro is R 53,40. Dus R 130,00 is nog geen EUR 2,20. Niet te geloven dus. Ik ben benieuwd naar het resultaat.
Ook heb ik gisteren samen met een van de yoga studenten gekookt. Ze had instant noodles gekocht en dat op een hele aparte manier klaargemaakt. Wel lekker en erg spicy. Ook daar begin ik aardig aan te wennen. Ik zal wel nooit het water drinken. No way!
