Nieuwste U2 klinkt beter op vinyl

De vinylavond van de Liempdse diskjockeys Albert B. (Bressers) en Maarten T. (Termeer) begin zo langzaamaan een traditie te worden. Zaterdag 14 maart is het weer zover en zal café Het Wapen van Liempde volstromen met muziekliefhebbers die ook zelf plaatjes mee mogen nemen. Maar zelf hebben Albert en Maarten ook voldoende muziek bij zich. ,,Ik denk dat we 2.000 liedjes bij ons hebben, terwijl er in zes uur maar tijd is voor 120 plaatjes."
'Get on your boots' van U2 zal een van de meest bijzondere nummers zijn die Maarten (33) zaterdag op de draaitafel zal leggen. Het nummer van de Ierse rockers staat namelijk op de vorige week verschenen cd 'No Line On The Horizon'. ,,En die is er dus ook op vinyl", zegt de diskjockey die al sinds 1993 een groot fan is van U2. ,,Vorige week kreeg ik de dubbelelpee binnen, besteld via internetwinkel Amazon en niet veel duurder dan twee tientjes. Genieten. En geweldige kwaliteit!"
Maarten beperkt zich tijdens de vinylavond in Liempde tot de muziek die na 1975 is gemaakt. Albert moet daar niet zo veel van hebben en richt zich op voornamelijk op liedjes die in de jaren vijftig op vinyl werd uitgebracht. ,,Dat betekent dus dat we Doe Maar of AC/DC moeiteloos afwisselen met The Hollies en Edith Piaf. Vorig jaar koos ik voor Conny Fröbes met 'Zwei kleine Italiäner'", lacht Albert (52).

Het idee voor de vinylavond werd vier jaar geleden geboren aan de bar van Het Wapen van Liempde. En sindsdien is het een keer per jaar een uitdaging voor het Liempdse duo om de mooiste platen uit de kast te halen. ,,We doen het bewust maar een keer per jaar", vertelt Maarten. ,,Als je dit iedere maand zou doen, is de lol er snel af. Nu is het leuk om een paar weken per jaar de leukste plaatjes uit te zoeken."
De enorme platencollectie van Albert dient als basis; de Liempdenaar bezit ongeveer 5.500 elpees, hoewel hij de tel is kwijtgeraakt en het er zomaar meer kunnen zijn. Op beurzen en rommelmarkten neemt hij vlot weer een paar dozen mee. ,,En ik heb de smaak ook al aardig te pakken", lacht Maarten, die ook muziek van hedendaagse artiesten op vinyl koopt. Alles van U2 dus, of een plaat van Amy Winehouse. Binnenkort vallen de elpees van The Chemical Brothers en The Prodigy in de brievenbus.

Tijdens de vinylavond in Liempde draaien Albert en Maarten om en om platen. ,,Dat betekent dus dat je nooit langer dan drie minuten hoeft te balen als een liedje je niet aanstaat", grinnikt Albert. De hele lange nummers die vooral in de jaren zeventig werden gemaakt worden niet gedraaid. Geen 'Child in time' dus van Deep Purple (10.18 minuten) uit 1970 of 'Stairway to heaven' (8.00 minuten) van Led Zeppelin uit 1971. En 'Paradise by the dashboardlight' (8.28 minuten) van Meat Loaf uit 1978 staat evenmin op de playlist, gewoon omdat ze het een vreselijke plaat vinden. Die kan dus ook niet aangevraagd worden...
Maar wat kunnen bezoekers dan wel verwachten? Alberts favoriete top drie bestaat uit 'Paint it black' van de Rolling Stones, 'My baby baby' van Chubby Checker en het onvolprezen 'Patsy' van Rein de Vries. En Maarten zal beslist 'Get on your boots' draaien, de laatste hit van U2. En verder 'You know I'm no good' van Amy Winehouse en 'Hey boy, hey girl' van The Chemical Brothers. ,,Verzoekjes vinden we heel leuk, dus bezoekers moeten beslist hun eigen elpees of singeltjes meenemen", zegt Maarten. Met Albert bereidt hij nog wat spelletjes voor om de vinylavond nog leuker te maken. Met de quiz 'Raad je plaatje' is een bijzonder gebruiksvoorwerp van vinyl te winnen.
De vinylavond van de diskjockeys Maarten T. en Albert B. in café Het Wapen van Liempde duurt zaterdag 14 maart van 20.00 tot 02.00 uur. De toegang is gratis.
