A White Christmas  »«  Kersliederen :: Christmas carols

"Well I am me mammy's darling."

CHORUS

Dai-rie oh.

And will you come to me mammy's house
When the moon is shining clearly.
And will you come to me mammy's house
When the moon is shining clearly.
I'll open the door and I'll let you in
And divil the one will hear us.

   CHORUS

So I went to her house in the middle of the night
When the moon was shining clarely.
So I went to her house in the middle of the night
When the moon was shining clarely.
She opened the door and she let me in
And divil the one did hear us.

   CHORUS

She took me horse by the bridle and the bit
And she led him to the stable
She took me horse by the bridle and the bit
And she led him to the stable
Saying "There's plenty of oats for a soldier's horse,
To eat it if he's able."

   CHORUS

She took me by the lily-white hand
And she led me to the table
She took me by the lily-white hand
And she led me to the table
Saying "There's plenty of wine for a soldier boy,
Drink it if you're able."

CHORUS

She got up and she made the bed
And she made it nice and aisy
She got up and she made the bed
And she made it nice and aisy
Then she took me by the hand
Saying "Blow out the candle!"

   CHORUS

There we lay till the break of the day
And divil the one did hear us
There we lay till the break of the day
And divil the one did hear us
She arose and put on her clothes
Saying "Darling, you must leave me."

   CHORUS

When will I return again
When will we get married
When will I return again
When will we get married
When broken shells make Christmas bells
We might well get married.

Chorus: G D Greensleeves was all my joy Em B7 Greensleeves was my delight, G D Greensleeves was my heart of gold, Em B7 E And who but my lady greensleeves. Addities: Your vows you've broken, like my heart, Oh, why did you so enrapture me? Now I remain in a world apart But my heart remains in captivity. I have been ready at your hand, To grant whatever you would crave, I have both wagered life and land, Your love and good-will for to have. If you intend thus to disdain, It does the more enrapture me, And even so, I still remain A lover in captivity. My men were clothed all in green, And they did ever wait on thee; All this was gallant to be seen, And yet thou wouldst not love me. Thou couldst desire no earthly thing, But still thou hadst it readily. Thy music still to play and sing; And yet thou wouldst not love me. Well, I will pray to God on high, That thou my constancy mayst see, And that yet once before I die, Thou wilt vouchsafe to love me. Ah, Greensleeves, now farewell, adieu, To God I pray to prosper thee, For I am still thy lover true, Come once again and love me. of vers: Dm C Dm A7 Dm C Dm A7 Dm chorus: C C7 Dm A7 C C7 Dm A7 Dm Tekst en muziek :: Henry VIII

[D] For fame and for fortune I [G] wandered the [D] earth, And [G] now I've come [D] back to the land of my [A] birth; I brought back my [D] treasures [D7] but only to [G] find, They're less than the [D] pleasures [A] I first left [D] behind. For these are my mountains and [G] this is my [D] glen, The [G] hills of my [D] childhood will know me [A] again; No land's ever [D] claimed me [D7] though far I did [G] roam, For these are my [D] mountains [A] and I'm going [D] home. The stream by the road sings at [G] my going [D] by, The [G] birds overhead [D] wing their welcoming [A] cry; The bay where the [D] gulls fly [D7] at last I can [G] see, It's here that my [D] heart lies, [A] it's here I'll be [D] free. E7 to wear that ball and chain. De originele tekst :   There is a house in New Orleans They call the Rising Sun. It's been the ruin of many a poor girl, and me, O God, for one.   If I had listened what Mamma said, I'd 'a' been at home today. Being so young and foolish, poor boy, let a rambler lead me astray.   Go tell my baby sister never do like I have done to shun that house in New Orleans they call the Rising Sun.   My mother she's a tailor; she sold those new blue jeans. My sweetheart, he's a drunkard, Lord, Lord, drinks down in New Orleans.   The only thing a drunkard needs is a suitcase and a trunk. The only time he's satisfied is when he's on a drunk.   Fills his glasses to the brim, passes them around only pleasure he gets out of life is hoboin' from town to town.   One foot is on the platform and the other one on the train. I'm going back to New Orleans to wear that ball and chain.   Going back to New Orleans, my race is almost run. Going back to spend the rest of my days beneath that Rising Sun.

Donald where's your trousers »« traditional

Donald where's your trousers  »«  traditional

I just down from the Isle of Skye I'm no very big but I'm awful shy All the lassies shout as I walk by, "Donald, Where's Your Trousers?" Let the wind blow high and the wind blow low Through the streets in my kilt I go All the lassies cry, "Hello! Donald, where's your trousers?" I went to a fancy ball It was slippery in the hall I was afeared that I may fall Because I nay had on trousers I went down to London town To have a little fun in the underground All the Ladies turned their heads around, saying, "Donald, where's your trousers?" The lassies love me every one But they must catch me if they can You canna put the breeks on a highland man, saying, "Donald, where's your trousers?"
